Room - Temperature Chemistry of Acetylene on Pd ( 11 1 ) : Formation of Vinylidene

چکیده

The surface species formed following acetylene adsorption on Pd( 1 1 1) a t 300 K is identified as a vinylidene. It is oriented with its carbon+arbon axis tilted at -50’ to the surface normal which allows overlap between molecular ‘lr orbitals and the surface d-orbitals. The carbon4arbon bond is slightly longer (by -0.03 A) than for adsorbed ethylene on Pd( 1 1 1). This assignment is consistent with previous photoelectron and high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy data. Adsorbed vinylidene decomposes to yield hydrogen and deposit carbon onto the surface at -480 K with an activation energy of 11 5 kJ/mol.

Simulation of benzene formation from acetylene on palladium and oxygen-covered palladium surfaces

Acetylene cyclotrimerization catalyzed by palladium has been shown to proceed via the initial rapid formation of a C 4 H 4 species. This can either react with adsorbed acetylene to form benzene or alternatively, as has been recently suggested, it can dimerize forming cyclooctatetraene which decomposes to yield benzene. Trimerization is sufficiently fast that reaction is desorption rather than s...

Temperature programmed desorption of co-adsorbed hydrogen and acetylene on Pd(lll)

Co-adsorbed acetylene and hydrogen react on Pd(l l l ) to form ethylene and butene. Benzene is also formed and it is found that the low temperature (~ 280 K) desorption state observed on the clean surface is virtually unaffected by the presence of hydrogen whereas the higher temperature (~ 520 K) state is modified. However, adsorbing benzene onto a hydrogen pre-covered surface just affects the ...

Metal-Catalyzed Hydrocarbon Conversion Reactions†

Palladium-catalyzed acetylene trimerization and the metathesis of olefins catalyzed by molybdenum and its oxides are investigated in ultrahigh vacuum and at high pressures. Benzene is formed on Pd(111) by the reaction between adsorbed acetylene and a surface C4 metallocycle. The resulting benzene evolves in temperature-programmed desorption in two distinct states. The low-temperature state is p...

Time-resolved molecular beam mass spectrometry of the initial stage of particle formation in an Ar/He/C2H2 plasma.

The temporal evolution of the neutral plasma chemistry products in a capacitively coupled plasma from argon/helium/acetylene is followed via molecular beam mass spectrometry with a time resolution of 100 ms. Several chemistry pathways are resolved. (i) The formation of C2nH2 (n = 2-5) molecules proceeds via the following sequence: the production of highly reactive C2H radicals in electron impac...

An Efficient Pd-Sn Catalyst Supported on MWNTs for Hydrogenation of High Concentrated Acetylene Feedstocks: The Potential Role of Isolated Adsorption Site

In the present study, tin-promoted Pd/MWNTs nanocatalystwas synthesized via polyol technique for application in hydrogenation of high-concentrated acetylene feedstocks. TEM images showed a restricted distribution of nanoparticles in the range of 3-5 nm. The results indicated that nanoparticles sizes were resistant to further catalyst deactivation. XRD patterns signified alloying between Pd and ...
